EDITORIAL JUNE 6, 2005

2005 grads snapped up by Big Biz.
Research: "90% of big companies (10,000 + employees) plan to hire...now."

Accounting is today's hot button, according to many sources, including Monster.com and top-ranked CPA firms.
Driven by Sarbannes-Oxley (companies must deliver far more detailed
financial reports)...Big Business needs bodies.

Best source? 2005 Grads. With starting salaries like $44,564 (their figures), the jobs are good entry-level situations. And salaries are not all; the benefits are enhanced to lure "the Best of the Class."

Best? A great GPA is key. And, as always, the right major.
One new grad says: "All my classmates were recruited right out of school,
way before graduation. I've got an dual-degree...MBA plus Accounting."

The bennies include "...concierge services for employees "too busy" to run errands..." This makes us laugh out loud. What exactly does it mean...to be 'too busy' to leave your cubby to go 'run errands?'
As we all know, this means "Hire Young, Hire (Cheaper)...and Work 'em Hard."
We suppose some older workers might be a little less enthusiastic about that.

Monster calls this a good trend for "entry-level job seekers."
There are 1.2 million grads flowing into the labor market.
Aside from Accounting, the Top Job Categories include:

1. Sales
2. Administration
3. Customer service
4. Advertising

What can FortyPlusNY add to this News Item?

How about this: One of our current members just got placed in a temporary situation...also driven by Sarbanes' pressure...for a Quality Control job with a good firm in Financial Services...where AN EXPERIENCED PERSON IS NEEDED TO CONFIRM THE ACCURACY OF OUTGOING FINANCIAL REPORTS.

You see, Experience IS valued...in the right circumstances.
